A form of trial that uses accumulating data to determine how to modify the design of ongoing trials according to a pre-specified plan. Intended to increase the quality, speed, and efficiency of trials, adaptive trials typically involve interim analyses, changes to sample size, changes in randomization to treatment arms and control groups, and changes in dosage or regimen of a drug or other technology.
